Confederate Veteran of County Passes

The death of William T. Grigsby at Nectar Tuesday reduced the number of surviving Confederate Veterans in Blount county to one—J.R. Jenkins, of Oneonta, who in a few days will be 91. Mr. Grigsby was 93 years of age having been born on Jan. 5, 1845. He was a native of the county and spent practically all of his life in the community where he died. He entered the Confederate Army at Blountsville in 1862 and was in the Volunteer Company organized by William Graves. He was later transferred to Co. K commanded by Captain Skinner, and was in some of the hardest battles of the war. He was discharged at Salisbury, N.C. and returned to Blount County where he married Miss Mary Jane Withers in July, 1865. Mr. Grigsby was the father of one son and four daughters, among the survivors being E.L. Grigsby, of Route 1, Bangor and Mrs. A.R. Head of Springville. Funeral services for the deceased were held at Nectar Wednesday and were conducted by Rev. T.B. Nation.
