Obituary

Mrs. Sarah M. Neel, nee Johnson, was born June 16th, 1817, in Montevallo, Shelby County, Ala., and died April 10, 1911, aged 93 years, 10 months and 24 days. She married Benjamin Neel, December 10, 1836. To this union there were born ten children, five boys and five girls. Seven of them preceded her to the grave, four boys and three girls. Her son, B.F. Neel, died at Lacy Springs, February 9, 1911, and her oldest daughter passed away on the 14th and her youngest died the 15th of February last. Within two months and one day three children and a mother passed into the Great Beyond. With her children, ten in number, and 49 grand-children and 24 great-great-grandchildren, a total of 177. Mrs. Sarah Neel was a good Christian woman, kind mother, a pains-taking wife and a friend to every one. She joined the Methodist church in early life in Shelby county, from there she moved to Madison county where she at once placed her church letter. In 1856 she moved to Blount County and resided four miles from Blountsville. She brought her church letter with her to this county and placed it with New Lebanon church, and her membership has been there ever since. The funeral services were conducted by her pastor, Rev. W.R. Lumpkin, assisted by Bro. W.G. McAbee and A.J. Alldredge and the remains of this good woman were tenderly laid to rest in Rock Springs cemetery.
