Mae Marie Belmas, age 94, of Munising, died Tuesday morning, September 5, 2006 at the Tendercare Health Center in Munising. She was born the eldest of six on May 24, 1912 in Ironwood Township to William and Albina (Aili) Morrison. She had lived with her husband, Reino Belmas, in Hurley, Herman, Skanee, Marquette, and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. After the death of her husband, Mae relocated to Munising in 1989. She was a member of the Eden Lutheran Church and WELCA (Women of the Evangelical Lutheran Church of America.)
Mae is survived by two daughters – Marcia and Les Niemi of AuTrain and Cheryl and Dr. Joseph Haslitt of Gaston, IN; three granddaughters – Kristin (John) Madigan of Munising, Gretchen (John) Marks of Beloit, WI, and Dr. Tracy Haslitt of Gaston, IN; three great-grandchildren – Kathleen Madigan, Alexandra and John Marks; sister – Bertha Swanson of West Allis, WI; and several nieces and nephews. She was preceded in death by her parents, husband Reino in 1982, brothers John, Joseph, and Robert Morrison, and a sister Irene Smith.
Mae’s visitation and funeral services will be held at the Eden Lutheran Church on Saturday, September 9, 2006. Visitation will be at the church from 9:00 a.m. until 10:00 a.m. Rev. Dr. Lynn Hubbard will conduct Mae’s funeral service at 10:00 a.m. Interment will be at the Oaklawn Cemetery in Sault Ste. Marie. Mae will be escorted by her grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Memorials may be directed to the Eden Lutheran Church in memory of Mae.
