AILI ELIZABETH GAGNON

Aili Elizabeth Gagnon, age 89, of Pensacola, Florida and formerly of Munising and Chatham, died on Wednesday, August 6, 2003 at the Haven of Our Lady of Peace Nursing Center in Pensacola, Florida. Aili was born on September 24, 1913 in Eben Junction, Michigan to the late Alexander and Augusta (Lakanen) Metsala. On June 20, 1936, Aili married Albert Augustin Gagnon. They were married over 60 years when he preceded her in death on September 3, 1996. She was a homemaker, had worked at the bakery for a short time and then at the Superior Health Haven for six years. Aili was a member of the Sacred Heart Catholic Church for many years. She was a social member of the National Catholic Society of Foresters. Aili belonged to the Alger County Historical Society and the Munising Senior Citizens Club and their Kitchen Kettle Band. She loved music, dancing, and taking photographs.

Aili is survived by: sons – Ronald Augustin of Beaver Dam, WI and Robert Alexander (Kathy) of Racine, WI; daughter, Lenore “Leni” Cable of Pensacola, FL; 15 grandchildren; 19 great-grandchildren; 2 great-great-grandchildren; a sister, Aune VanHala of Lower Michigan; and numerous nieces and nephews.

In addition to her parents and Albert, Aili was preceded in death by a son, Angus James on December 3, 1989.

Father Dennis Borca celebrated a Mass of Christian Burial on Monday, August 11, 2003 at the Sacred Heart Church in Munising. Interment was in the Maple Grove Cemetery in Munising.
