WINTERS By 1887, a few settlers had arrived near Winters, in the southern part of Rock River Township. In 1888, in order to join the two ends of the Township, a dirt road from Winters to Rock River was built. The road was often impassable, making it difficult for the residents of Winters to attend elections and meetings that were always held in Rock River some 18 miles away. In 1924, Winters had a post office and one store. Winters preceded Trenary as a small settlement but with the advent of the railroad being built through Trenary, Winters withered away with the post office closing and eventually, the lone store. |
